Glen Falls, New York – Finch Paper on July 17 announced that it will no longer produce pulp at its pulp and paper mill in Glens Falls, New York. Instead, it will buy pulp on the open market. …Finch said the change will allow it to focus on the core of its business, which is producing paper. …The company’s decision, however, will affect the independent loggers and truckers who have supplied the mill with wood for pulp production for many years. “…it will no longer be necessary for the company to purchase large quantities of logs from wood suppliers in the Northeast and New England,” the company said. Professional Logging Contractors of the Northeast (PLC) voiced its concern saying the closure of the pulp mill “is a significant loss for the region’s logging and trucking industry with far reaching economic consequences as well as serious negative impacts on the ability to properly manage forest health.”
