Four people and two pets have been evacuated by helicopter from the Johnson Creek wildfire as properties near the rural community of Beaton remain on evacuation order along the Incomappleux Forest Service Road (FSR) and Fish River Road. The City of Revelstoke issued the order Saturday, Aug. 15… Three Incomappleux FSR properties and two Fish River Road properties have been asked to evacuate the area immediately. The Johnson Creek fire, sparked by lightning and identified July 19, has after four weeks burned 266.52 hectares in mixed forest terrain and progressed close to the Incomappleux FSR and namesake river. “Upon discovery, a rappel crew responded with support from aviation resources,” Southeast Fire Centre spokesperson Alexander Robinson said. “Shortly thereafter, wind driven fire growth moved this fire into extremely steep and inoperable terrain. Crews continued with suppression efforts in areas where it remained safe to do so.”
