PORTLAND, Ore. — Many of Oregon’s larger wildfires from earlier in the summer have been brought partially under control but remain active and dangerous, and fire crews are still responding to more recent blazes across the state. With roughly a month still left in this year’s wildfire season, officials have expressed concerns about firefighter fatigue and urged residents to remain vigilant about fire protection and prevention measures. More than 2,537,303 acres have been burned by wildfires across Oregon this year as of Aug. 31, setting a new record, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry. The previous largest wildfire season on record was 2024 with 1.93 million acres burned, but 2026 surpassed that total in early August after a series of lightning strikes during dry thunderstorms sparked massive blazes in late July.
