The Deep Creek Fire, also known as incident #349, has burned at least 10 to 15 acres in the Fall Creek area of the Middle Fork Ranger District along Forest Service Road 1835 about 10 miles south of Nimrod, according to Willamette National Forest officials. The fire, which was first reported at 1 p.m. on Aug. 31, is burning within the 2021 Gales Fire footprint. A crew, engine and two helicopters are responding to the area with additional resources on the way to support full suppression efforts, officials said. The Gales Fire was part of the 30,000-acre Middle Fork Complex. Frumencio Ruiz-Carapia died while fighting the Gales Fire when he was hit by a falling tree on the east side of the fire.
