The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for abundant lightning and potential for gusty outflow winds. With critical fire conditions across Central Oregon, any new fire starts have the potential to spread quickly. Large air tankers provided retardant drops yesterday on the south end of the Coyote Fire, within the 2020 Frog Fire burn scar, while helicopters supported Hotshot crews with bucket drops on the western portion of the fire. Aircraft were up as soon as the smoke lifted and worked to slow the fire’s progression, allowing resources to fight the fire as directly as possible. Helicopters also supported efforts to fight the fire directly along the southeast portion of the Coyote Fire where crews and equipment worked all day, making steady progress. The northern perimeter of the Coyote Fire is holding within its current containment lines, and the 2024 Wiley Flat Fire continues to help with containment efforts to the east.
