BC Wildfire Service is warning Thompson-Nicola and Fraser Canyon residents that local wildfire activity will ‘likely occur’ until the winter this year. The Ainslee Creek wildfire, burning out of control since it was sparked in the area of Boston Bar on July 4, remains at almost 68,000 hectares with six evacuation alerts and two evacuation orders in the surrounding area. And despite a weekend forecast that includes up to 5mm of rain on Saturday, the province’s wildfire watchdog says that there is no “fire-ending” rain in the forecast at this time. “Fire activity will likely occur in the interior of the wildfire perimeter until winter due to the extreme drought conditions across most of the trees and soil this wildfire is burning in,” said BC Wildfire Service
