CROSS CITY, Florida – Firefighters were able to bring a fire at a lumber mill in Dixie County under control after it ignited on Sunday. On Monday, Dixie County Fire Rescue officials said the fire at Suwannee Lumber Mill was under control and that they were working to extinguish the remaining hot spots. No mill staff or firefighters were hurt in the blaze. Officials with the Domtar Cross City Sawmill say the fire started in the #3 Kiln on Sunday morning. They say the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The area where the fire occurred will remain closed until further notice. The rest of the mill will resume normal operations. “Domtar appreciates the prompt response and support from our local emergency responders,” the company stated in part. “The safety of our employees and community remains our top priority.”
