A fire on northern Vancouver Island continues to burn out of control on Thursday. The B.C. Wildfire Service map showed two fires on Vancouver Island on Thursday morning, including one burning out of control north of Kaipit Lake, southwest of Woss. It is estimated at 4.75 hectares, or 47,500 square metres. A small fire discovered between Strathcona Park and Tahsis on Wednesday was considered under control. Another found Wednesday near Jordan River is now out. …The B.C. Wildfire Service is warning that heat and limited precipitation are expected throughout this week, which elevates the potential for new fire starts….Heat warnings remained in place Thursday morning for much of mainland B.C., but have been lifted for Vancouver Island. It says smoky skies are also expected to continue, and may worsen in the northeastern and central regions.
