Northeastern Ontario continues to battle with forest fires. Five new wildland fires were confirmed Monday, all in the Cochrane area. There are currently 46 active fires in the Northeast region. Of those, one is being held, six are under control and 39 others remain under observation. Northwestern Ontario is feeling the brunt of active wildland fires. There are currently 119 active wildfires in that region of the province. Of those, 24 fires are not under control, six are being held, seven are under control and 82 are being observed. Eight fires have recently been called out. Four areas across the northwest have been classified as areas to note, including the Rinkler Lake Complex, the Atikokan Cluster, Dryden and the Highway 599 Cluster around Sioux Lookout.
