PEACE RIVER, Alberta —  Mercer International Inc. announced that its Peace River pulp mill will undertake a planned 10-day maintenance shutdown from September 7 to 17, 2026, a standard practice across the pulp industry that allows maintenance and operations teams to complete critical inspections, upgrades and equipment servicing that cannot be performed while the mill is running. The shutdown is expected to reduce production by approximately 15,000 air-dried metric tonnes (ADMTs), a planned and anticipated impact that has been factored into the mill’s annual production outlook. “Planned maintenance shutdowns are one of the most important things we do all year,” said Cal Dakin, Managing Director of Mercer Peace River. “Taking the mill down on our schedule, rather than reacting to an unplanned failure, lets our teams get into the equipment, inspect it inside and out, and make the upgrades that keep Peace River running safely and reliably for our employees, our customers and this community for years to come.”
