The lightning-caused Brewer fire was estimated at 29,878 acres and 5% contained Wednesday morning. In an update posted about 2 p.m. Wednesday, fire officials said the fire remained more than 8 miles from the north edge of Prineville and posed no immediate threat to the community. The nearby Box Springs fire is a separate lightning-caused fire, but it is being managed with the Brewer fire under the same unified command. It was estimated at 15,203 acres with no containment Wednesday morning. Fire officials warned that conditions could change quickly. A red flag warning that began at 11 a.m. Wednesday remains in effect until 11 p.m.. Thunderstorms could bring lightning and erratic wind gusts of 35-45 mph. Lightning could start new fires, while the gusty winds and temperatures in the 80s and 90s could increase fire activity, officials said.
