With hot weather ahead, residents in Electoral Area D under evacuation alert are urged to prepare grab-and-go bags and emergency plans. In an Aug. 5, update on the Bradley Creek wildfire by Okanagan Lake, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District said evacuation alerts issued for properties south of Highway 97 in the Sweetsbridge/Cedar Hill area, and in parts of Glenemma, remain in effect. As of Wednesday morning the fire was estimated to be 2,852 hectares, with little growth seen from the day prior. “However, the wildfire remains active and is still listed as out of control,” said the CSRD. “Work is continuing on creating containment lines, but this is taking time due to the damage to infrastructure and the amount of danger trees in the area. The fire zone must be made safe for responders to work.” Environment Canada anticipates highs in the mid 30s for the Vernon area in the coming days, reaching 36 C on Friday, Aug. 7.
