With recent U.S. decisions increasing countervailing duties on Canadian softwood lumber to over 35%, there’s an unprecedented level of uncertainty about how the market will be impacted. These escalating tariffs threaten to disrupt supply chains, inflate costs, and reshape the forestry industry.

At BC Wood, we’re dedicated to helping you navigate these challenges. Which is why we will be hosting a Tariffs Panel at the Global Buyers Mission. Introduced by Minister Ravi Parmar, on Thursday – September 4th, 2025 and will bring together top leaders to analyze the challenges, opportunities, and strategies amid escalating trade tensions.

Moderated by Mo Amir, General Manager of SPF Precut Lumber and host of This is VANCOLOUR on CHEK, Mo brings his sharp media savvy and deep industry knowledge to the table. As a regular commentator on CBC Vancouver and Global News Radio, he’s known for facilitating lively, insightful discussions on British Columbia’s culture, politics, and economy.

Our panel will include

  • Nick Arkle, CEO, Gorman Brothers Lumber / Gorman Group: With over 50 years in the forestry industry, Nick leads one of Canada’s respected family-owned lumber operations, emphasizing sustainable practices and innovation.
  • Liz Kovach, President, Supply-Build Canada: Representing lumber retailers nationwide, Liz is a vocal advocate on trade impacts. Featured on CBC discussing how tariffs are already dampening demand and inflating prices. Her analysis has spotlighted the ripple effects on supply chains, making her a key figure in pushing for resilient strategies amid U.S. trade actions.
  • Kurt Niquidet, President, BC Lumber Trade Council: Kurt’s expertise spans economics and forest policy, with roles at the BC Council of Forest Industries (COFI) and as an adjunct professor at UBC. In a Global News feature, he addressed B.C.’s forest industry challenges, the threat of higher American tariffs, and government measures for resilience.
