BLACKFALDS, Alberta — The Wood Manufacturing Council launched Connecting Youth to the Canadian Wood Manufacturing Industry, a new program funded through the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment and Skills Strategy. Over the next two years, the program will help 96 youths facing barriers to employment gain the hands-on-skills training, supports, and paid work experience needed to build successful careers in the wood manufacturing sector. Through industry-focused training, career coaching, and employer partnerships, participants will develop valuable workplace skills and connect directly with employment opportunities across Canada. Participants complete an 8-week paid, hands-on training program, receiving PPE and industry-recognized certifications, including First Aid/CPR. WMC then reimburses employers for up to 30 hours/week at provincial minimum wage for a 7-week work placement, allowing employers to provide shop-specific training while evaluating potential new hires.
