Citing dry conditions affecting several regions north of the St. Lawrence River as well as the “exceptional operational demands” facing its forest firefighting service, Quebec’s minister of domestic security on Monday announced a ban on open air fires had been extended. There are nine active wildfires in Quebec, three of which are out of control, according to SOPFEU. The aim of the ban is to limit the risk of forest fires. Consequently, it is forbidden to set or maintain an open fire or to be in the vicinity of such an active fire.
