For more than four decades, Chuck Leavell has occupied a rare place in American music, performing alongside some of the biggest names in rock and roll while building a life devoted to the land he calls home. Leavell will bring both sides of that story to The Piedmont Grand Opera House on Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. for An Evening of Film, Songs and Stories with Chuck Leavell: The Tree Man. The evening will combine live music and storytelling from Leavell with a screening of the acclaimed documentary Chuck Leavell: The Tree Man, which chronicles his remarkable journey through music, forests and family. …Away from the stage, Leavell has devoted much of his life to forestry and conservation. Along with his wife, Rose Lane, he operates Charlane Plantation, a celebrated tree farm …and example of sustainable forestry. That connection between music and the natural world is at the heart of The Tree Man.
