Opposition to a proposed logging operation in Spallumcheen’s Mount Rose Swanson continues to grow. BC Timber Sales is proposing to harvest up of 35.7 hectares of forest, spread over 15 smaller patches, ranging in size from one to 4.3-hectare openings. The volume of timber projected to be harvested is approximately 14,500 cubic metres… The Armstrong Spallumcheen Trail Society has been vocal in its opposition to the project and is now working with a local First Nations band to study the impact the project will have. “ASTS has entered into an agreement with the Adams Lake Indian Band (ALIB),” the society said in a press release. According to the ASTS, the north and west sides of Mt. Rose Swanson – including the proposed cut blocks – drain into the watershed of the South Thompson River. The society said the watershed, including the specific area of Mount Rose Swanson, has been mapped by an ALIB Geographic Information System specialist.
