Canada sent payment for forest images to blacklisted Russia collaborator: Report

A Russian war collaborator that was blacklisted by the United States was paid by the Canadian government for satellite images, according to a report. “Canada is actively exploring options on next steps,” a June 13 briefing note said, according to Blacklock’s Reporter. The Department of Natural Resources hired China Head Aerospace Technology Company, a Beijing-based contractor, on Jan. 16, government records show. On Feb. 24, the U.S. Commerce Department blacklisted the satellite company among other collaborators of Russia’s war in Ukraine. Despite being blacklisted, a $41,637 payment was made to the company for satellite photos of Canadian forests by March 31, according to documents. The money was seized by U.S. authorities.
