The New Brunswick government says Nackawic’s pulp mill may never return to production after its owner announced last week the mill would temporarily shut down at the end of October. Natural Resources Minister John Herron said the owner might not be interested in a future for the mill, leaving approximately 350 employees out of work. The mill is owned by AV Group. …Herron said no one has asked the province for taxpayer dollars to bail out the mill. “The most stark illustration of this is that the company has not asked for any money at all associated with this,” Herron said. “So my view is that the Birla Group is tapping out.” …Premier Susan Holt said on Monday that she’s looking for AV Group to “uphold their end of the bargain to New Brunswickers and the people of Nackawic.”
