NEW BRUNSWICK — Residents of Nackawic-Millville are on edge this week as the future of the local pulp mill, the community’s largest employer, appears increasingly uncertain. The mill owner, AV Group, told the provincial government that it is “evaluating all of the strategic options for their mill and its operations,” according to Natural Resources Minister John Herron. …Unifor, the union representing workers at the mill, said it has 270 members working there. Nackawic-Millville Mayor Greg MacFarlane said the mill and jobs that spin off from its operations represent nearly half of the town’s tax base. …The AV Group, the mill owner, told CBC News in August that it had stopped buying wood for the mill because it had plenty of inventory for its operations and needed to manage its cash flow. …The mill does not export to the United States, so tariffs are not to blame for the uncertainty.
