Montrose Forest Products, one of Colorado’s few timber mills, cannot guarantee operations beyond the next 60 days, after being unable to find a buyer, parent company Neiman Enterprises announced Tuesday evening. The Neiman family issued a federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notification regarding the potential closure of the mill. Employees were notified earlier in the day. “For months, we searched for a buyer who could continue operating the mill in Montrose, but we were unable to secure one. “said Jim Neiman, president of Neiman Enterprises, in Tuesday’s announcement. “We continue to evaluate all available options; however, because none currently ensures the mill will remain open, providing formal notice to our employees was a necessary step.” The Neiman family purchased Montrose Forest Products in 2012, investing more than $60 million in its operation, while also working with government officials, nonprofits and conservation partners to address the ongoing timber supply and economic challenges.
